In the fast-paced world of digital advertising, encountering hurdles is par for the course. But what happens when your entire display ads account hits a roadblock due to Google policy issues?

Join me as I recount my journey at Ketto, where I tackled ad disapproval head-on and emerged victorious.

It all started with a simple yet significant problem – our ads were getting disapproved left and right due to Google's stringent policies.

Working for a crowdfunding platform like Ketto meant we often promoted campaigns related to healthcare, which included sensitive topics and not-so-visually-appealing imagery.

Words like "cancer" or "death" triggered automatic disapprovals, and frequent changes to our ad creatives only exacerbated the issue.

As the disapproval rate soared, my workload shifted from managing campaigns to finding solutions.

With 90% of my work revolving around Google Display Ads, an unapproved ad meant I was essentially left with nothing to do.

It was time to roll up my sleeves and get to work.

After conducting extensive research, I identified potential loopholes to tackle the problem.

One strategy was to swap our company logo with our mascot logo, as Google seemed to recognize and disapprove ads based on the former.

Additionally, I proposed using less harsh content and imagery, along with making necessary adjustments to our landing pages to avoid triggering disapproval.

However, implementing these solutions required collaboration across teams.

I had to rally support from content creators, operations teams, and others to conduct A/B testing and refine our approach.

It wasn't easy, but through effective communication and building strong relationships, I convinced everyone to pitch in.

After multiple rounds of testing and tweaking, we finally cracked the code. Our display ads were once again approved, and the account was back on track.

It was a testament to perseverance, teamwork, and creative problem-solving.

Here are some key takeaways from my experience:

  • Understand the policies: Take the time to familiarize yourself with Google's advertising policies to avoid potential pitfalls.

  • Think outside the box: Look for creative solutions to address ad disapproval issues, such as logo swaps or content adjustments.

  • Foster collaboration: Build strong relationships with cross-functional teams and leverage their expertise to overcome challenges.

  • Test, test, test: Don't be afraid to experiment with different approaches and conduct A/B testing to find what works best.

  • Stay persistent: Ad disapprovals can be frustrating, but don't give up. Keep pushing forward and exploring new strategies until you find a solution.

In conclusion, navigating ad disapproval issues requires patience, resourcefulness, and teamwork. By embracing challenges and thinking creatively, you can overcome obstacles and keep your advertising campaigns running smoothly.
